Packaging and transporting artworks
May 01, 2022- Bubble wrap? Yes Or No?
- Never use bubble wrap if it is in direct contact with the painting. A foam wrap that is designed for wrapping artworks is recommended by art couriers.
- Bubble wrap should not be used if in direct contact with bronze or powder coat sculptures
- If your artwork is under glass bubble wrap is fine
- Corner slips are also good protection for your frames
- Some artists place paintings in wooden framed packaging, but this can make the painting heavy for shipping
- If transporting your art yourself use a soft doona or pillows to cushion the artwork especially framed works with glass
- Unfortunately, pastel works are difficult to transport. Place them face up to avoid pastel deposits from dirtying the glass
- Place framed artworks back to back to avoid the D ring damaging the front of the frame
